Background
In 2003 Al Goodyear from the University of South-Carolina, found remains in Topper, South-Carolina. Five meters under the surface he found fireplace, woodcoals and tools made out of flint. Radiocarbon dating suggested that the woodcoals were around 40-50,000 years old. Also in 2003 footprints were found near Puebla in Mexico. They have been dated 40,000 years old. In Pedra Furada tools and woodcoals around 40,000 years old have been discovered Yukon, Canada 27,000 year old mammoth bones, thought to be handled by humans, have also been discovered.

Status today
This theory is  controversial. The woodcoals in Rockshelter may have formed in a forest fire and the flint tools may have formed in the nature as well. The same story goes with the site in Pedra Furada. The footprints in Puebla might be after something other than humans and many scientists consider the dating methods used too unreliable.
